Tolkien Still Making Money! -- Posted by Black_Rider on Friday, August 16 2002 at 4:56 AM GMT
Even while being deceased, celebrities are earning millions of dollars. This week, Forbes issued its Richest Dead Celebrities list, and where does J.R.R. Tolkien stand? Well, you'll just have to see for yourself. I'll agree it's a tad morbid, but to each his own.
UK Registers Ring True -- Posted by Fatty on Friday, August 16 2002 at 1:46 AM GMT
Well in the UK people have gone wild for the DVD of The Fellowship of the Ring. It sold 1.27 million copies on its first day. Beating the previous record held by young Mr Potter. After a week it has now sold a total of 2.5 million copies, that's 700,000 ahead of Titanic's total in 1998.
Oh yes and you can add mine to that too, so 2.5 million +1 :-)
Black Label games Formed -- Posted by Fatty on Friday, August 16 2002 at 1:41 AM GMT
Whilst I thought that Black Label was a brand of lager, it actually turns out to be a brand-new, and rather ambitious, game development studio – formed by Vivendi Universal.
The new studio will be focussing on high-quality titles, designed to appeal to a mature audience, and as such Black Label’s first games will include ‘The Thing’, The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, and.....more
Well this adds to the complicated web of companies and delvelopers involved in The Lord of the Rings franchise. Still it sounds promising.
Oh and as a footnote, War of the Ring may just be hoping along to see how The Fellowsip of the Ring game is coming along. More soon along with the opening of the PC/Console section.

Outage and Downloads -- Posted by Fatty on Tuesday, August 13 2002 at 5:40 AM GMT
Well folks we had a little outage tonight. We had to reboot our servers. The good news is that all downloads will now be servered from a separate server. this means you should not experience huge timeouts when the site is busy.
Though obviously if we run some exclusive footage there will still be some change in speed. However, it should be nothing like before.
The team at War of the Ring would like to thank you for your patience.
Quickbeam is Sam? -- Posted by Fatty on Tuesday, August 13 2002 at 8:00 AM GMT
Confused? Well no need. Quickbeam over at TORN is to be the voice of Samwise Gamgee in the new Fellowship of the Ring game by Universal. Seems he was working as their Internet advisor and they got him into the studio.
Now I wonder if they need a Fatty ;-)
Anyhow well done Quickbeam and watch out for our new PC/Console section coming to your screen very soon.
