Howard Shore, ASCAP.... -- Posted by Dawn_Noelle on Saturday, April 24 2004 at 7:16 PM GMT
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSICAL BEGINNINGS? I started studying counterpoint and harmony when I was ten, along with the clarinet. At fourteen, at a music library, I heard Toru Takemitsu for the first time. I also discovered the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Bela Bartók and Igor Stravinsky. That was the music that interested me when I was younger and I mixed that with my love of popular music – Elvis Presley and the Beatles, growing up in the 50's and 60's. full article (thanks to yelsel)

No support from Elijah -- Posted by Nienna_Miriel on Friday, April 23 2004 at 8:08 PM GMT
Two of London's Football League grounds are to feature in a major new Hollywood film. Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood has been spotted at both West Ham and Brentford filming scenes from The Yank in which he plays an American student who gets caught up in football hooliganism. Ignoring any progress made since the Taylor Report, the US actor takes a dim view of English supporters. He said: "Fans of football over there sort of form these factions and fight among each other. It's a massive part of the culture. It's all throughout Europe and a lot of it is prevalent in England."Source
The Battle for Middle Earth New Video Clip from EA -- Posted by kenzie on Friday, April 23 2004 at 12:21 PM GMT
EA Games today released a new video clip for the upcoming release of The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth. The video is titled, "Inside the Battle: Unit Emotion" and the game producer goes in to detail about how emotions of creatures and humans help bring the game to life. For example, in traditional RTS's (Real-Time Strategy) if you direct your army to kill the enemy, they will do just that and nothing more. However, when you add "Emotion" to the army and creatures like in EA's Battle for Middle-Earth, your army will make a lot of noise and entice the enemy before attacking. After the enemy has been killed, your army will yell and scream and celebrate their victory......more
Did the Lord of the Rings film work for you? -- Posted by kenzie on Friday, April 23 2004 at 12:18 PM GMT
LOOK, you can’t translate a work with the breadth and depth of J.R.R. Tolkien’s into another medium without losing or changing some details. Yes, I think Kiwi director Peter Jackson shouldn’t have expanded Arwen’s role and I don’t think Aragorn got his kingly due in Lord of the Rings:TheReturn of the King ? like any fervent fan of the written work, I could nitpick into the wee hours.
But I won’t. And I didn’t after I’d seen the movies. Well, okay, I did complain loudly about Arwen’s role right after watching Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring. But aside from that, did Jackson capture Tolkien’s magic?.......more

Middle Earth Exodus -- Posted by Nienna_Miriel on Tuesday, April 20 2004 at 10:05 PM GMT
If California was where people migrate to reinvent their lives, the Bay Area was the mecca for doing it according to a wild utopian vision. Coming here offered the politics of eternal liberation, a culture of uniqueness, a nature of staggering beauty and a hell of a lot of hype. But now that the Gap and Starbucks rule the landscape and other places have embraced queer politics, environmentalism and alternative you-name-it, the Bay Area can no longer claim to corner the market on cultural idiosyncrasies. . . . Around the world ROTK fell -33,6% from last week. It's international gross is $733,310,148 and it's worldwide gross is $1,109,368,699. In the USA, ROTK is practicly done. With daily grossings under the $40,000 it wont be long before ROTK is completely gone from the cinema's.

Email Issues***** A resolution in sight! -- Posted by Illuvatar on Sunday, April 18 2004 at 12:40 AM GMT
With the assistance of the great folks at Servint, we have come to the final resolve for the email issue that has kept our site mail blocked from most ISP's around the world.
With their help we were able to have our site name removed from the blacklists, but since most of the ISP's update their list too infrequently, we decided that we could no longer afford to not be able to route our mail, and on Monday, April 19th, the technicians will be assigning us a new IP Address. From that point mail from our Community Forum, etc. should be routed to you as normal.
This will involve a small amount of downtime while the server is shutdown, and the new IP addy is assigned. We have been told that it should then take somewhere between 12 and 24 hours for it to propagate to all the ISP's around the world. During this time, you may find certain areas of the site unavailable to you until your local ISP resolves.
We are shooting to have this change take place between 12 & 3 pm E.D.S.T., and once we've confirmed that our mail service is back to normal, we are planning a special competition/give-away to celebrate.
So keep an eye (or two if you can spare them) right here for more updates!
