Winner Gets Her Prize

-- Posted by Fatty on Tuesday, August 20 2002 at 7:00 PM GMT

Well you might remember that Lisa, in Australia, won our first competition. It was to win a book ( The War of the Ring) signed by Billy Boyd.

Anyway we sent it last week and yesterday she got it. There is a twist in the tale too, a bit of a mistake on my part. Below is part of Lisa's e-mail.

Hooraahhhhh!!!!! Got the book this afternoon!!!!! Thank you so  much. I knew I should have been a little more patient. It arrived  in perfect condition, and I'll try to keep it that way, although it might be hard to stop myself from drooling over that autographed page. I think Pippin  is now my favourite.... :)

Hey, was I meant to have that signed card as well or did you say that you were going to keep it. You have been so great, so I don't  mind sending it back if you want it.

Anyhow we told Lisa just to keep the signed Topps card too. Afterall she did have to wait a while!

So thanks to Lisa for being a good sport and make sure you all have a go at our latest compitition.

Chess players who also happen to be fans of The Lord of the Rings are going to be very happy this fall!

The Official Movie Site of the epic motion picture trilogy features a shop with an extensive selection of LotR merchandise, and one of the newest featured items is a special LotR:FotR chess set. The set can be pre-ordered through the gift shop (it ships on September 5, 2002).

The stunning Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring chess set features sculpted figures, each depicting a key character from the award-winning film in superb detail. Each hard plastic piece has either a pewter or bronze effect, with heroes depicted in pewter and villains in bronze. Each piece bears a great likeness to the characters in the film and the actors that played them. The chess set piece details are as follows:

Pawn: Hero - Sam Gamgee; Villain - Orc Warrior
Rook: Hero - Boromir; Villain - Orc Overseer
Knight: Hero - Aragorn; Villain - Lurtz
Bishop: Hero - Frodo; Villain - Cave Troll
Queen: Hero - Galadriel; Villain - Ringwraith
King: Hero - Gandalf; Villain - Saruman

The cardboard chess board features a map of Middle-earth and measures a full 15 x 19 inches and the average height of the figures is 3 inches.

Everyone Wants to be a Black Rider

-- Posted by i_saila_isiltari on Monday, August 19 2002 at 10:47 PM GMT

Ananova reports:

Rhys Ifans says he would like to have been in Lord Of The Rings.

Ifans has just finished working on a film in Australia with Miranda Otto, who plays Eowyn in The Two Towers and Return Of The King.

He says that's as close as he got to being in Peter Jackson's trilogy.

Ifans told Ananova: "I would have loved to have been in it. I could have been one of those Black Riders."
