War of the Ring turns two today! -- Posted by Illuvatar on Monday, June 21 2004 at 7:23 PM GMT
Today..the 21st of June marks the two year anniversary of WotR going live!
To tell true.....it sure seems a lot longer than that!
It snuck up on my very quietly, and thankfully somebody in my house (not me!) tends to remember these kind of things.
I wanted to post this here to thank each and every one of you that makes this place what it is today. Every single one of you contribute in your own special way, whether you are Staff, Community member, a Subscriber, someone who sends us news, art, or photos, or even just someone who stops by to lurk about and catch up on the news....it's you that keeps this place going, and thriving in quite the competitive environment that is the internet.
Your thoughts, insights, ideas, and most of all your fellowship makes me, and I'm sure I speak for the rest of our staff as well, both honoured and humbled to be able to be a part it, and to have War of the Ring as a part of our lives.
I've spent a little time reflecting on some of the changes we've gone through in the past two years, and it simply amazes me! We started off with an idea....a rather simple one... to create a LotR fansite that would appeal to folks of all ages, a site that would be well rounded and ever growing in terms of content, something both pleasing to the eye and functional at the same time, but most of all..a place for Tolkien fans to gather and share in their common love (and obsession hehe) for all things Tolkien. We launched on June 21st, 2002 after being in development for approx. 6 months, and when we were confident enough in our content. Since then we have experianced consistant and sometimes dramatic growth, we've been fortunate to be invited to exclusive screenings and to cover premieres, attend events, conduct many many "give-aways", and all the while...the various sections of the site, Art, Fanfic, Armoury, and of course our Forum Community continue to grow in leaps and bounds...and it's all thanks to you the fans! We of course, put in our hours to get things up and online, but because of you....it's really a labour of love, and it's worth every moment!
So....here's to you!! HUZAH!!
The Valar keep each and every one of you, and may the light of The Two Trees shine upon all our paths, keeping us together in fellowship for many years to come.
Noonan rescues the Ring -- Posted by kenzie on Monday, June 21 2004 at 12:23 PM GMT
HOWARD Shore's music to the Lord Of The Rings film trilogy is undoubtedly an outstanding soundtrack. From the 12 hours of film music Shore has fashioned a massive six-movement symphony – two movements from each film – for vocal soloist, chorus and orchestra. It is accompanied by a visual projection of conceptual illustrations from the Rings films by designers Alan Lee and John Howe.
Composers such as Erich Korngold, Bernard Herrmann and John Williams have created excellent orchestral suites from their film music. These succeed primarily by retaining the atmospheric descriptive qualities of the scores in a format that does not over-extend the original material.......more

If he's a busy man, he's also an engaging one, happy to talk about The Lion ... which is in pre-production in West Auckland (even though he's meant to be promoting the Shrek sequel) and just how he's made the jump from the world's biggest computer cartoon to a live-action version of a book - the first of C.S. Lewis' Narnia Chronicles - that is as precious to its fans as The Lord of the Rings was to its following.
Q. How is the other film going? Can we call it the other film?
A. It's going very well. We are days away from shooting or weeks away from shooting, so it's a train that is coming at me definitely. But it's going great. We have a great cast assembled now so it's really coming together. It's exciting. It's terrifying and exciting.......more
