Competition Winner! -- Posted by Fatty on Saturday, October 5 2002 at 4:35 AM GMT
The winner of the Saruman statuette was Stephen from Texas. So that pesky wizard should be winging his way to him in the near future courtesey of the good folks at Sideshow/Weta.
So congratulations to Stephen and thanks to all who entered. He correctly found and explained what Saruman had said. For those who never found him. He is still on the Orcrist page of The Forces of Good in the Armoury. :-)
A new competition from Weta coming soon as well as one of our own. In fact a whole load of them coming to you soon. Watch this space or subscribe to Min-Rimmen, the competition newsletter.

The new one-sheet for The Two Towers will be hitting movie theaters in the next couple of weeks or so," said our new scooper (who wanted to remain anonymous.) "I work at a movie theater, and I saw the poster for The Two Towers in the back. I asked about it, and they told me that they aren't going to put it up for a few more weeks at the request of New Line, probably around the end of October or the beginning of November.
"We also have a huge standee of Gandalf on Shadowfax, and I suspect that it will be put up at the same time we put up the new poster.
"As for what the poster looks like, I don't want to give anything away, but there are pics of Eomer, Eowyn, Theoden, and Faramir on it, but not one of Gollum or Treebeard." [No Ents were harmed by this anonymous scooper.]
And from a second, different anonymous guy, we're told Effects house Sony Pictures Imageworks is also doing some effects work for this pic. [My precious anonymous!]

Rhys-Davies Talks about Being the Voice of Treebeard -- Posted by Fatty on Thursday, October 3 2002 at 8:42 PM GMT
John Rhys-Davies told SCI FI Wire that he didn't ask Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson if he could play both the dwarf Gimli and Treebeard in the upcoming second Rings film, The Two Towers. "I certainly would not be as impertinent as to ask," Rhys-Davies said in an interview. "P.J. came up one day and said, 'John, [co-screenwriter] Fran [Walsh] and I were just talking. Would you mind taking a shot at doing Treebeard, the voice of Treebeard?'"

Wood Wants It! -- Posted by Fatty on Tuesday, October 1 2002 at 4:43 PM GMT
Elijah Wood told SCI FI Wire that he's eager to see the "special extended edition" of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, which New Line Home Entertainment will release as a four-disc DVD set on Nov. 12. "I can't wait," Wood said in an interview. "I want it now, because it is a half-hour longer. They've cut a half-hour back into the movie."
The actor, who stars in the Rings trilogy as the heroic hobbit Frodo, added, "Instead of having the release with the deleted scenes section, [director Peter Jackson] has literally cut 30 minutes back into the film and added new musical cues that [composer] Howard Shore wrote for the DVD. There are also two discs of supplemental material. So there is a bunch of bonus documentaries and an in-depth study of how the movie was made. It's pretty unbelievable." The second chapter in the Lord of the Rings adventure, The Two Towers, opens nationwide on Dec. 18.
War of the Ring Editorial -- Posted by Fatty on Monday, September 30 2002 at 2:46 PM GMT
Well its out and looks good, or at least it would if we could see it. Now don't get me wrong we are grateful that the trailer was wisely shared with everyone. Though we had to nab the Quicktime version from AOL on the fly. But this just shows the nonsence of the roll out.
Quite what the point of showing us, what is obviously an amazing trailer in a tiny screen in a poor format is a mystery. I mean how many adverts and addons can Realplayer try and install!
We are looking forward to the full versions but why could they not have been released straight away?
Maybe next time New Line will have a more sensible release. Still can't get over the matchbox sized image we were treated to. Make the music seem somewhat hyperbolic. :-)
Anyhow we will do a full scene by scene report once we get the better trailers. In the meantime why not drop intot the forum and let us know what you think so far.
To us looks like PJ gets the thumbs up!
Oh, if you have not seen it we recommend you wait for the larger version tonight. Really it will look much better and watching the small one wil just ruin the impact a bit.
Another Version and Some Images -- Posted by Fatty on Monday, September 30 2002 at 2:23 PM GMT
OK well get the small Quicktime version here and check out some captures here. Note we will do proper captures when the fulsized versions come out. These are just a quick unedited bunch, and some in wrong order.
More on Trailer -- Posted by Fatty on Monday, September 30 2002 at 9:10 AM GMT
Well you can get it here, if you have realplayer or real one. Also check the official site here for screen by screen etc. It is very small but amazing. More soon.
Cute Duracell Commercial -- Posted by Melkor on Monday, September 30 2002 at 6:03 AM GMT
Just saw this cute little commercial on Duracell batteries. "When helping save lives, or alluminating Wizards and Hobbits, Duracell will always be there." It had some little boy reading a book under his covers with a flashlight. Just thought you would like to know!
See Elrond Tonight! -- Posted by Melkor on Monday, September 30 2002 at 5:58 AM GMT
Don't miss out on watching Elrond (Hugo Weaving) tonight on FOX. Although he will be playing an Agent Smith. I'm talking about the Matrix, if you got confused. ;-)
The New Trailer -- Posted by Fatty on Monday, September 30 2002 at 1:42 AM GMT
Well it is due out in the early hours. We should have the details and screencaps as soon as it hits the Internet. Stay tuned. You know if we can we will ;-)
In the meantime some interesting details fromt eh back of some of the figure boxes. Gives us a good idea of where PJ is coming from.
Spoilers follow, Highlight to see.
Elven Archer
Elves of the woodland realm of Lothlorien, the Gahadrim were a might people, deadly skilled in the arts of archery and swordplay. As the war began to spread across Middle-earth, a host of Galadhrim soldiers were dispatched by the Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn to aid the beseiged people of Rohan. Sent under their captain Haldir, they arrived at the Rohirrim fortress of Helm's Deep in time to aid the defense against the might of Saruman's Uruk-hai army.
Berserker Uruk-hai
Of all the divisions of Sarumans vast Uruk-hai army to lay seige to Helm's Deep, the Berserkers were perhaps the most terrifying. Painted with the emblem of their lord, shaved bald and blood-smeared, these crazed warriors, largest of the Uruk-hai, wore no armor of any sort. Not expected to live, their sole purpose was to break and strike terror into the enemy lines, buying time for their armored comrades to gain the walls of the fortress

Airport film shoot for Elve Bloom's new boxing flick
Aaron Langmaid
HE MAY have lost his Elvish blonde locks - but this young actor still packs a magical punch on the big screen.
Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring star Orlando Bloom - who played the Legolas Greenleaf in the smash box office hit, was on location at London City Airport last Sunday (September 22).
He was filming a scene for his new movie The Calcium Kid - in which he plays a milkman who discovers a unique talent for boxing and soon finds himself facing up to an unbeaten American champion.
The 25-year-old braved blustery conditions alongside fellow actors and more than 50 extras - mainly playing journalists crowding a star's limo.
And he's not the only young star of the film - it was revealed last week that resting pop singer Billie Piper, Mrs Chris Evans, makes a cameo.
Producer Richard Johns, whose credits include Shadow Of The Vampire, spoke to The Wharf.
"It's a scene where the world champion boxer Hosa gets flown in with his managers before the big fight," Johns said.
Bloom laughed alongside the rest of the cast and crew as they reviewed scenes on the monitor after each take.
The Kent-born actor - who was also in Hollywood blockbuster Black Hawk Down - scored the part of the Lord of the Elves of Mirkwood in The Lord Of The Rings two days before he graduated from Guildhall University.
He now has a tattoo in Elvish script on his arm, and wears a ring with the Elvish inscription: "To wherever it may lead".
Obviously, it's leading to more parts. Bloom, who lives in London, is set to appear in the next two sequels.
Shooting for The Calcium Kid is expected to take another six weeks, with filming taking place mostly in South and East London.
The London City shoot took 12 hours as the director and crew filmed through scattered showers, wind and a stream of bused-in passengers pulling up in the middle of the set.
Location manager Matthew Wortman said while the weather could have been better, the use of London City Airport for the scene had been ideal. "It's a more controllable environment than using any other airport around London," Matthew said. "All the elements we need are right here."
The Calcium Kid is set for release next year.
BOY band Blazing Squad were at London City Airport on Friday (September 20). The band's debut release Crossroads soared up the pop charts earlier this year and the teenagers were using the location to film their latest music video. "There were a lot of teenage girls who came down to see the band," said a source.
