-- Posted by Illuvatar on Saturday, July 10 2004 at 9:19 PM GMT

It's time for another competition here at War of the Ring! "And what is the prize?'" you ask...

Well...in association with Sideshow/Weta, we are giving away an Orc Soldier Bust!!

The fact that Sideshow/Weta are providing this sculpture as a prize is a special treat, as production on Orc Soldier Bust has been suspended. They will not be manufacturing any additional pieces of this item, so the edition is considered closed and is now limited to the remaining stock on hand!

You can view all the details about the competition and find out how to enter here!

Good luck! :o)

'Lord of the Rings' star Elijah Wood got a bit of a shock at a press conference in the Czech Republic.

He was answering questions about his new film, an adaptation of the book 'Everything is Illuminated', when a fan wandered up to him and handed him an envelope.

Apparently someone walked up and handed Elijah and envelope with a "slash" photo of him in it.

'Lord of the Rings' inspires Sydney

-- Posted by Illuvatar on Friday, July 9 2004 at 4:31 AM GMT

The "Lord of the Rings" so inspired the mayor of a Sydney suburb he suggested naming the streets in a housing project after its characters.

The Randwick City Council will consider Mayor Murray Matson's suggestion next week even though he says he has since changed his mind, the Sydney Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.

Deuling It Out

-- Posted by Fallen_Shadow on Tuesday, July 6 2004 at 8:28 PM GMT

Local residents take fantasy characters onto the field of battle.

...driving past the Weede Physical Education Building on the campus of Pittsburg State University every Monday and Wednesday night might feel like they're traveling past a Renaissance Festival, like they were transported into a J.R.R. Tolkien novel or are on the set of one of the "Lord of the Rings" movies.

The local fighters use soft weapons, which they have fashioned themselves out of foam, to fight like the characters in their favorite books and movies.

Read all about it, right here.

Fellowship for the trees!

-- Posted by Illuvatar on Monday, July 5 2004 at 3:08 AM GMT

Hallo Folks,

I received this today from the Project-Monaghan Staff, and am honoured to be able to bring you this news:

On Wednesday, July 28th, Billy Loons Charities, wwwbbloonscharities.net & Project Monaghan, www.project-monaghan.net  will be holding a joint-event called  Fellowship for the Trees, along with the non-profit organization, TreePeople, www.treepeople.org!  This tree care event will take place at a school in the Los Angeles area and will consist of the upkeep and care of trees previously planted by TreePeople.  This event will be held between 10am and 2pm.

This is a kick-off to Project-Monaghan's continuing partnership with TreePeople, and to our big December Tree Dedication event, where we will present TreePeople with the donations Project-Monaghan has collected during 2004, and assist in the planting of new trees.  These donations will be made in Dominic Monaghan's name, and he has been invited to attend.

All who participate in the July event will be invited to participate in the Tree Dedications in December. Those of you who are interested in volunteering and participating should contact Robin Harmon or Fanie Gregoire to receive information on the exact location, and activities. We look forward to seeing you there!!

Thank you, Project-Monaghan Staff

Thanks Goldberry!
