Lawrence Makoare (Lurtz in The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring) is confirmed as a guest for the Sideshow / Weta booth. This year we will be selling product, showcasing exciting new Limited Editions, offering awesome photo opportunities with our life-sized Lurtz and Ringwraith on Steed statues, and giving away great prizes! Today Brad Dourif confirmed his appearance at the Ring*Con2002 in Bonn / Germany. The US-actor will play Grima Wormtongue in the second and third installment of the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Dourif had his breakthrough with the role of the mental patient Billy Bibbit in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO´S NEST but he is also well known for his performances in many horror/sci-fi movies, including DUNE, CHILD´S PLAY or ALIEN 4.

Here they are, the first set of pictures of the outfit still in progress. We've just finished putting together the United Cutlery version of the sword with an ornate scabbard and harnessing system. Steel sabatons and greaves (feet and shins) are next with a few other tweaks too. This costume is quite a bit more than meets the eye. Terry Pratchett has picked up the most prestigious award in children's literature.
He has won the Carnegie Medal for his book, The Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents.
But he could not resist a swipe at fellow fantasy author JRR Tolkien as he accepted the award.
Discussing his winning novel, Pratchett said: "Far more beguiling than the idea that evil can be destroyed by throwing a piece of expensive jewellery into a volcano is the possibility that evil can be defused by.............more
Editors note: Seems to me Pratchett is always having a go at Tolkien.....I don't like his books much myself :-)

The world premiere of The Silmaril will take place April 25-27, 2003 at Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Silmaril is a new full-length ballet which depicts the forbidden love of Beren, the mortal hero, and Lúthien, the immortal elf-maiden. Decipher´s The Lord of the Rings Trading Card Game was awarded Best Trading Card Game (TCG) of 2001 and Best Graphic Presentation of a Card Game last night at the 28th Annual Origins Awards ceremony in Columbus, Ohio. The prestigious awards were presented by many celebrities including John Rhys-Davies, who portrays "Gimli The Dwarf" in The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.read more

United Cutlery has announced it's new lineup of LotR swords for the year. In addition to the Sting, Glamdring, Witchking and Narsil swords they currently offer, they will soon be releasing The Ringwrath Sword, and a special edition of Narsil. Later this year they will add Arwen's sword, Strider's Ranger sword, and the Uruk-hai scimitar as well.

As Wellington, NZ-based Weta geared up for the second installment of The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, New Line Cinema, backers of the trilogy had already grossed over $800 million — and that’s before the first of two DVD releases hit the streets. Not bad considering the budget.............more

Harry also seems to think that a certain "car scene" which we all know so much about has been removed from the DVD. Can it be?

Ugluk's Stand in the Campaign Trail section of the Armoury has been updated. The static maps on the Desciption of Battle page have been replaced with an animated Flash one. Go look! It's fun and quite informative.

If you are interested in the reproduction swords from the movie or just swords in general, this might be interesting to you. Blades by Brown, one of the main sellers of The Lord of the Rings swords from United Cutlery, now have a news letter.
It features various interesting article about weapons and such. Well worth a look.
