That comes from his beautiful co-star Diane Kruger, who tells GLARE, "Orlando turned out to be a very good kisser and he had to kiss me in full Troy armor, which wasn't easy." .  .  . more

The British Royal Mint in Wales, United Kingdom, recently released a new coin series honoring the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The 48 different coins feature the One Ring and several of the movies' most memorable characters, including the hobbit Frodo Baggins and the wizard Gandalf the Grey.

Ranging in value from 50 cents to 10 dollars, the coins can be used as real money in New Zealand, where all three of the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed. Movie fans, though, will probably want to collect these coins rather than spend them!.......source

Would-be actors fooled by stunt

-- Posted by Nienna_Miriel on Thursday, May 13 2004 at 10:22 PM GMT

Dozens of people turned up at Massey University's Recreation Centre on Wednesday hoping for a part in Peter Jackson's film King Kong.

They were tested on facial expression, voice projection, improvised speech and, of course, funny walking.

At one stage, six people stood in a circle singing Monty Python's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life in the style of a church choir, a New Zealand Idol contestant and a rock singer.

But the potential actors were the victims of a student capping stunt, organised by "director" Ash Flowerday, who said afterwards: "I'm going into hiding."    Source

  • A pre-Hobbit Elijah Wood as Ethan, a victim of school bullies because of his snobbish intellect. He raises Frasier's ire by calling his advice patronizing, simplistic and uninspired.

The One Man Lord of the Rings

-- Posted by Nienna_Miriel on Thursday, May 13 2004 at 10:17 PM GMT

Charlie Ross had a huge hit last year with The One Man Star Wars Trilogy and now he brings the same delightful combination of faithfulness and irreverence to the Lord of the Rings movie franchise. On a bare stage, dressed in black and wearing knee and elbow pads, Ross enacts stripped-down scenelets from all three movies, with an uncanny knack for impersonation and for conjuring mammoth special effects by using merely his voice and body.  .  .  more

    Monster movies

-- Posted by Dawn_Noelle on Sunday, May 9 2004 at 7:26 AM GMT

The term `blockbuster' was coined in 1975 after the surprise success of Jaws. The "movie" part of it is hopelessly outdated and limiting, considering that blockbusters now arrive pre-sold as mega-hits in a variety of product categories. It matters not whether the movies please the critics, or have plots worthy of the name (most don't), or even whether they fulfill box-office expectations. Just so long as they sell enough merchandise to make the total effort worthwhile.

But last year, 25 movies reached blockbuster status, many of them in just a few weeks of release. One of them — the Oscar-winning The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King — crossed the golden $1 billion line in world ticket sales, joining Titanic in that exclusive penthouse. full article
